The Frantic @ The Metro

The Frantic opened up for AM Taxi and Billy Talent for this show. The whole thing was very unexpected, actually. Poison The Well was slated to play the show, but sadly, their van (and gear) got stolen that morning, and they obviously couldn’t make it…. so, Frantic got a call that afternoon about their availability, and before they knew it, they were on the bill.

It was a great show. Lots of punk, lots of rock, and just genuinely good bands. It’s rare that the entire lineup of a show is good, but this was definitely one of those shows. (more…)

Marilyn Manson @ Mayhem Fest

As Spin.com quoted, Marilyn Manson wasn’t my favorite of the day. I mean, he had the disadvantage of following Slayer (and Killswitch Engage, which was my fav), so he had some tough acts to follow. He was definitely different and created an ambient mood, so I’ll give him that.

Slayer @ Mayhem Fest

While I’m not a huge Slayer fan (I prefer Metallica), it’s still pretty epic to shoot Slayer.

Steel Panther @ Double Door

Killswitch Engage @ Mayhem Fest

Killswitch Engage was my favorite band of the night. That might be a racy thing to say when they were up against legends Slayer, but I just had fun shooting Killswitch. Of all the bands at Mayhem, they seemed to interact with the audience the most, and seemed to be enjoying themselves the most. Vocalist Howard Jones even grabbed a photographer’s camera and tried to take pictures of the crowd – right in the middle of a song. Mix that in with the crazy matching tux t-shirts, and the running around from side to side of the stage, and it was a blast. They were the only band that totally kept me guessing. (more…)
