The thing about Ludo is that they always try to top themselves, and that they are great at not taking life too seriously. This tour was named Space Dracula’s Basketball Expo, and as you can tell, the band (and audience) dressed up to celebrate the theme. I give guitarist Tim Ferrell huge props for wearing his astronaut suit the whole time, because it was super hot in Bottom Lounge.

Those Ludo boys are dedicated.

Fun fact: One day, Dianna Agron (Quinn from Glee) posted a Tommy & The High Pilots video on her Tumblr. I think that means they’ve hit the big time.

Stamps is a new band that is working with some of my favorite people in the Chicago scene. So, between several of my friends working with the band, and the lead vocalist being ex-Hush Sound, I was excited to check them out when they opened for the Ludo show a few weeks ago. Citing several 60s bands as influences, the indie pop band has a mellow throwback sound that is different from many recent bands out there. I’m interested to see where their unique sound takes them!

Now that some of the members of Last Fast Action are quite busy with Audio Is King, they don’t play very often, so it’s a treat when they do. I’m looking forward to the new CD that is slated to come out in the next few months!

Ludo is one of my favorites. Through the past eight years I’ve seen them go through line-up changes, several CDs, and countless concerts, and I’m never disappointed. Through it all, they always manage to keep their show fresh and entertaining.

For this show, their big surprise was asking their fans to have a seat on the floor and to be very quiet. They then headed out to the center of the venue and performed “Love Me Dead” a capella. It was a pretty amazing moment.
