Nico Vega @ Subterranean
This was the first time I’ve seen Nico Vega, but I know that they’re a favorite amongst photographers, and after seeing them, I can see why. I love bands that are super passionate during their performance, and Nico Vega definitely was.

Semi-Precious Weapons @ Subterranean
I don’t even know where to start about this show. Semi-Precious Weapons is always amazing and awe-inspiring. On a technical note, this was the first time I used extensive off-camera flash at a concert (three remote flashes)… still needs some work, but I picked a hard show to practice on.

Cinder Road @ Bourbon St.
Another set from the SR-71 show in Baltimore, MD.

Cinder Road was main support for SR-71, but the interesting thing is that both Mike Ruocco and Pat DeMent played both sets. Talk about stamina, especially considering that SR-71′s set was an hour and half!. But, back to Cinder Road. I’ve been a fan of Cinder Road from back in the early 2000s, when they known as Plunge. They’ve evolved a lot since that time; they’ve lost their pop sound and are more rock, but they’re still great showmen and still sweet as pie. They’re another band that I rarely get to see, so I loved that they were on the bill that night!

For all my Chicago/Midwest followers, they will be playing Summerfest in Milwaukee this year, so if you’re going, make sure to check them out!

AM Taxi @ JBTV
I am a very lucky girl because I was able to photograph AM Taxi’s JBTV performance today. It was an intimate show with only about 60-70 in attendance. I love the JBTV studio, the people that run it, and the amazing show that they put out every week. I also love AM Taxi and am excited for the new record they’re putting out in June. JBTV and AM Taxi are reasons #6546531321 and #5543131211, respectively, why I love the local music scene… just FYI.

Much more to come from this shoot soon.

Update: Full set posted HERE.

Foxy Shazam @ Beat Kitchen
You haven’t seen entertaining until you’ve seen Foxy Shazam.

I first heard of them when they opened for The Sounds last year, but despite shooting the show, I arrived just a few minutes too late to get in the pit for Foxy. So, when I heard that they were doing their own headlining tour this year, I made sure to shoot it, and I wasn’t disappointed in them. They are a force.

You’d be hard pressed to find another band, that in the course of an hour, did handstands, played keyboards with feet sticking up in the air, broke a mic stand over a knee (then played air drums with the pieces), crawled across stage on all fours, did push ups, jumped like crazy, and a multitude of other crazy things. There is definitely no shortage of energy on the stage.

There are just some bands that everyone needs to experience once in their lives. I have Semi-Precious Weapons, Butch Walker, and Dragonforce on the top of my “amazing live show” list, but after this show, I think Foxy’s on there too.
