Red Rebel County @ 115 Bourbon St
What do you shoot on St. Patrick’s Day? An Irish band of course!

Red Rebel County’s set included a few originals as well as a bunch of classic Dropkick Murphy and Flogging Molly songs. Throw in some bagpipes, a few kilts, a great crowd, some beer, and a little kid who was decked out in green, and it was the epitome of St. Patrick’s Day!

Love Me Electric @ House of Blues
Love Me Electric played their first headlining House of Blues show a month or so ago. Made Avail, Dear Noel, and The Action Blast also played.

It’s always a thrill to have a headlining show at a major venue, so congrats to Love Me Electric!

Company of Thieves @ Lincoln Hall
Just a few from tonight’s show… it’s been months upon months since I last saw Company of Thieves. They’re as good as ever, and it was a fantastic show. It was also the first time I have been to and shot at Lincoln Hall, a new-ish venue in Chicago. It’s fantastic. I’ll have a lot of shooting notes when I post the full set of images.

PS. If you couldn’t tell, I was on Gen and Marc’s side…no photopit.

David Ford @ Schubas
Very rarely does a CD and a few YouTube videos impress me so much that I switch around my plans to make sure I can cover a show of an artist I hadn’t even heard of until that week.

In fact, I’m not sure that it has happened until David Ford.

One of my favorite publicists forwarded on some info about Ford and mentioned that he was playing at Schubas and if I’d like to cover the show… I would have liked to, but I was actually covering MER’s show that night (photos of that are forthcoming in the next few days), so I politely declined, with a promise to shoot next time he came around. But then I kept listening to the CD and pulled up a few YouTube videos of his live performances, and I was hooked. The next morning, I emailed the publicist back and asked if he knew the set time for Ford – that if I could, I’d juggle it so I could do both shows. Turns out, the set times worked perfectly, and the rest is history.

I’m so glad we went. The show really reminded me of a Butch Walker show – Ford is a bit more singer/songwriter-y – but the banter and stage presence was up to par with Butch, which is something I don’t say about anyone. Really, I can’t describe it. It was just a good show.

Check David Ford out here, you really should.

Cavalry @ Durty Nellies

Cavalry is a band I love and a band that I’ve been shooting for a while.  They took a bit of a break a few months back as they changed a few members and wrote some new songs (which are on their Myspace), but they’re back!  I missed their first few sets after their return, but I’m so glad I finally got a chance to catch up with them again.

This show was a bit different from the shows before their break since they’re down to a four-piece (lead Collin Patrick is vocalist/bassist now), but they still have the same vibe and sound, which is what I love about them. They’re the kind of band that will always give their best performance, regardless of where, when, or what type of audience. In fact, this set didn’t start until 1 a.m. and they still were rocking out, despite the late hour.
