Archives for the month of: January, 2010

In the interest of simplifying, I combined my website and my blog into one blogsite. Everything that used to be on my website is now on my blog – portfolios, pricing, about, etc. Things are cleaned up, portfolios are revamped, and I spiffied up my background and my headers (go ahead, refresh the page a few times). The basic layout is the same because I liked my layout, but there are lots of new little tweaks.

Look around, let me know what you think!

Treaty of Action Rehearsal @ The Stained Glass Palace
One of the things I want to do more of is the “behind-the-scenes” type stuff – rehearsals, backstage, recordings, etc. I love shooting live shows, but there is so much more that goes into a good band than just a concert. I’ve been lucky in my photography career to meet a bunch of amazing bands, and ones that don’t mind me hanging around and taking some pictures here and there.

These shots are from a rehearsal a few days before the Treaty of Paris Currents release show. Treaty of Paris and Last Fast Action met up at Treaty’s rehearsal space (also known as “The Stained Glass Palace”) to run “Currents” and “Hey Luv” together since they were performing them together at the show. This was an especially fun rehearsal since “Hey Luv” is a classic local scene song from The Dog & Everything (LFA’s previous band) and it hasn’t been played for years.

30 Seconds To Mars @ House of Blues (Twisted)
This was part of night four of Q101′s Twisted concert series. This series is several nights, and is held by the local alternative radio station every year – they bring in several large acts an take over a venue for a week. Tons of fun.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from 30STM. Of course, I knew some of their music from the radio, but I had never heard anything about their live show. Generally, if that’s the case, I find that the band’s live performances are just mediocre… however, I really enjoyed 30STM’s set.  Lots of stage presence, intensity, and interaction with the crowd.  They had energy without being over the top, and also managed to sound live like they do recorded (which is not always the case).  I love being pleasantly surprised by bands!

Kevin Prchal @ Schubas

If you like beautiful melodies and singer/songwriters, you’ll love Kevin Prchal’s music. It’s terrific. I’ve known Kevin for years, through several bands, and I’ve loved them all, because he’s one of those guys that has actual talent. This solo project is Kevin’s newest venture, and I think he’s just waiting to take the world by storm. He just released an EP called Eat Shirt & Tie, and it’s amazing. You should listen to some of it.

WARNING

For the record, I would like to state that this was not my idea…. but I love it.

And you all thought the Treaty of Paris Currents release show was crazy… you haven’t seen them during promos.
