I know Joey through a mutual friend, but we met for the first time when we did these promos. Joey is a great guy, who just loves music. We had a lot of fun talking and getting to know each other during the shoot. I’m looking forward to working with him more in the future.
Joey just released a CD – you can download it for free (or just listen to it) here.
Shooting Notes
Joey wanted pictures with a “real” feel, so I worked with a lot of natural window light, and only subtly enhanced it with an umbrella shielded flash a few times.
We shot this as the Ashbary, which is a true indie coffeehouse (not too many of them left!). It’s also where Joey has been practicing, writing, and playing, for years. I always love incorporating a bit of the performer into the shots, so it worked out well. I also excessively used the tilt-shift, because I liked the artsy feel it gave the photos, and felt it matched the vibe of Joey’s music.
