It’s been a while since I’ve posted something other than sneak peeks, contests, or info about publication. I’ve been a busy girl with the other side of my photography business, but things have calmed down for a while (harder to do outdoor shoots and weddings in the Chicago winter), so I’m back to editing concert photos… expect more updates now!
This set was from the last time I shot AM Taxi, who never fail to be true rockstars. Chicago boys, AM Taxi (formerly American Taxi) were picked up by Virgin Records a while ago, and have just finished recording their first label-produced CD, which will be released sometime in Spring 2010.
Shooting Notes
The light for this set was not terribly dark (I was shooting between 3200ISO & 5000ISO at f/2.8, 1/125-1/160), but not of good quality. There wasn’t a lot of backlight to make the photos pop, the majority of the light was coming from the extreme sides of the stage, which either left part of the performer in darkness, or produced a flashy look, depending on where I was standing. Lots of reds and yellows, with little shape to the light. Ultimately, just kind of blah. This saddened me, because AM Taxi is fun to shoot, and I don’t feel these photos did their live show justice… however, I will be shooting them again this week when they play with Rise Against at House of Blues for Q101′s Twisted concert series. Take #2!
One good thing did come of this shoot though – I had an all access pass, which allowed me to get a few different shots, especially a few shots of drummer Chris Smith. He’s normally wedged in the back, unshootable.
