Ladyhawke @ Metro

Named after the film by the same name, Ladyhawke brought a different vibe to the Perez Hilton Tour than the opening bands.  Laid back and ambient, the singer-songwriter seemed shy, but very into her melodic music. While it seemed a bit odd to pair her with bands such as Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head and Semi-Precious Weapons, I still enjoyed her set.

Shooting Notes

After the rest of the show being bathed in a constant, extremely-hard-to-shoot-in, red light, I was beyond excited to see the blue lights kick in for this headlining set.  Balanced with a bit of white front light, the three songs were a breeze to shoot (not to mention that I love blue stage lights!). The most difficultly I had was trying to vary my shots, as singer Pip Brown didn’t step away from the mic that often.   The rest of the band similarly stuck to their place far back on the stage, so there was no chance of catching a few shots of bandmate or crowd interaction. Needless to say, my trusty 16-35mm got shelved for the majority of the three songs, and instead I used the 24-70mm for that extra reach.

My exposures were all over the place – anywhere from 1600ISO to 5000ISO, with shutter speeds ranging from 1/80-1/160th… and of course, always wide open, at f/2.8.
