This set is a continuation of the backstage Frantic photos I posted a while ago. Up until Summerfest, this was the longest set I had seem The Frantic play. The best part? I got to hear lots of new songs that I hadn’t heard before. I can’t wait for the next album!
Shooting Notes
For House of Blues, the lighting was rough. Lots of color washes, with a lackluster intensity. In the first three songs, there was about thirty seconds of white front light. This saddened me a bit, because HOB is one of my favorite shooting venues in the area, but that’s okay, The Frantic is so fun that I wasn’t too upset with the color washes.
I was only able to shoot the first three songs from the pit, and it was a really tight pit, so I played zone defense, and focused on one band member at a time. While I was in the pit, I used the 16-35mm and the 24-70mm, but after I had to vacate the pit, I was able to shoot from the side of the stage, where I used the 70-200mm almost exclusively. Shooting side stage at HOB is a bit more difficult than it is other venues, since the apron curves out a bit. If the band favors the extreme front of the stage (as the Frantic do), then you’re mainly just shooting backs. However, it was good vantage point to get shots of drummer Brett.
