I do think that good glass has a lot to do with the quality of the images. I'm not sure of the effect it has on the lights specifically, but good lenses definitely affect the sharpness and contrast of the images. My general post processing for concert shots deals with fine-tuning exposure levels and adding in some contrast, so that might help some, but by no means is it extensive post work.
