This show was the kick off for the tour that The High Life just left for. A Chicago band that was named a band to watch in 2009 by Fearless Radio, this was also the first time I had seen The High Life, and they were different from what I was expecting. Simply put, they played one of the Free Credit Report.com songs… complete with pirate hats.
Basically, they weren’t afraid to have fun onstage.
Shooting Notes
I was luckily enough to be able to talk about lights with the “light guy” before the show. Mike of Kellner Designs was running lights, and we chatted a bit via email, and he great about helping me out with some better lighting than I’m used to. Metro is infamous for their constant use of red light, but thanks to Mike, I had lots of oranges and some white front light, with just the occasional burst of red.
The shoot was pretty straightforward – three or four songs in the pit, then I headed to the sides of the stage, balcony, and crowd to get a few additional shots. The 16-35mm f/2.8, and 24-70mm f/2.8, and 70-200mm f/2.8 IS all got use, along with both 5D Mark IIs.
