As I mentioned in my last post about them, Cavalry is a new band that only has a few shows under their belt, but you wouldn’t know it if you randomly showed up to one of their shows. This time, they played a low-profile show with another local band – the Urbanites (pictures of them coming soon!) – but still totally rocked out as if they were playing to a stadium.

Shooting Notes
I wasn’t satisfied with the photos I got last time I shot Cavalry because of the dismal lighting, so I asked them if I could do a “redo” at their next show, and they obliged. Ultimately, after two shoots, I love shooting Cavalry. They’re very high energy and contort themselves into all sorts of artistic shapes. They just don’t get boring to shoot, even after a whole set. And, on top of that, they’re great guys, which always is appreciated.
This was the first time I had been to and shot at LaSalle Power Co. It’s a new venue in Chicago, and I had heard rave reviews about the lighting they had in place. The lighting was better than most small-ish clubs in the area, but it was hard to work with. There was little front lighting, and the rest of the lights constantly flashed and changed colors, which meant lots of changing exposures and bursting, to get the right burst of light (you can see what I’m talking about in the video I previously mentioned). However, if, by either luck or skill, the shot was timed right, the light really was great. I’m anxious to go back and shoot there again, now that I know what to expect.
I shot this set with duel 5D Mark IIs, mostly with the 16-35mm f/2.8 and 24-70mm f/2.8. My exposures were all over the place.
