OkGo @ Double Door

This is the second time I’ve had the privilege to take photos of an OkGo show, and like the first time, they didn’t disappoint.
For those who aren’t aware of OkGo, they are the crazy band who had that treadmill video for “Here We Go Again” a while back. They are also Chicago boys, which makes me love them just a little more. (more…)
Just a peek: OkGo @ Double Door

A quick one from last night’s show at Double Door.
It’s been a while since I’ve shot OkGo (the last time was almost a year ago, at Grant Park), and I almost forgot what a great show they put on. And by great show, I mean LOTS of confetti.
More to come soon!
Cavalry @ Cobra Lounge

Cavalry is a new Chicago band who states that they pure rock and roll, and after seeing their show, I’m believing them. Their set was 30 minutes of black clothing, strong guitar riffs, tattoos, and pounding drums. I think there was even a little blood involved. (more…)
Free Redwall Vignette Actions!

I’m working on some super cool new actions that are of the “one-click and you’re done” variety, but until I’m done with that, I thought I would break up all the concert shots with a simple, but useful, free action set. Consider it a present from the Easter Bunny :)
This action set is all vignettes. I am a huge fan of vignetting; I love the way it focuses the viewers eyes on the subject of the photo, especially when there is a cluttered stage. However, in general I like a more subtle version of the vignette that just slightly darkens the color of the outer edges of the photo. In this way, the vignette can more effectively do it’s job of directing the viewer’s attention, rather than being overpowering, and therefore, counterproductive. Basic Photoshop tricks produce a black vignette, which can look very fake when used with brightly colored stage lighting. This is where this action set comes in. (more…)
Last Fast Action @ Cubby Bear

One of Chicago’s radio stations, Q101, has an hour broadcast every week called “Local 101″ that features local bands. Throughout the years they have put on local showcases, released local CD compilations, and many other things. It’s a great program that makes local music junkies like me happy. This past Thursday, Local 101 released their third CD compilation at the Cubby Bear in Chicago. The release show featured three local bands: Main Street Minority, Last Fast Action, and Holding Mercury. (more…)
