Despite Sing It Loud playing with Chicago locals Treaty of Paris (also friends of mine) several times in the past, this show at Turner Hall Ballroom was the first time I was actually able to see them. And they didn’t disappoint!
The Minneapolis band was energetic and interactive with the audience. A young and poppy band, it’s no surprise that they just came off of a tour with Cobra Starship. Bassist Nate Flynn was possibly literally insane, jumping off of five foot high (at least) speakers at the end of the set, Ben Peterson was rocking on the keys, singer Pat Brown was passionate in his vocals (and got extra points with me for his cool mic), guitarist Kieren Smith was constantly playing to the audience, and Chris Lee was relentless on drums.
I’m excited to see Sing It Loud again on February 4th, when they perform with Ludo (one of my favorites!) at the Metro in Chicago.
Shooting Notes
The same shooting conditions existed for Sing It Loud’s set as existed for Quietdrive’s set later on. Lots of white light, but little to no backlight. For that reason, I shot primarily with my 5D and 70-200 f/2.8. As I did with Quietdrive, I focused more on getting the shots that are usually harder to get – drummer shots and jump shots, since I had an All Access pass.
I’m really looking forward to shooting Sing It Loud at Metro, with a pit, so that I can capture their crazy antics with my 16-35mm!
